Question 3

Question 1

My media text uses the conventions of real media products in the narrative and performance. Before us as a group started to create the animatic, we deeply analysed the lyrics of the song. The lyrics were very meaningful and gave us a lot of options in terms of creating the narrative. There were two options and both fit in the codes and conventions of a music video; one option was to create a music video with majority of footage telling a story from beginning to the end and the second option, which we decided to go for, was to mostly use artist performance, and relevant to the theme, clips of the artists. The narrative also had a story intercutting which is also very conventional for all music videos and not only rap. The performance of the artists especially the main artist was very important. It needed to be professional and very expressive just like in rap music videos. If the expression of the gestures was bad the music video would seem lame and unprofessional and as a consequence, unattractive to the audience.

I developed the forms and conventions of real media product, in my music video by the clothing of the artists. Even though we did have a lot of costumes prepared for the music video, we decided to develop the clothing further and use different styles for the artist performing the chorus. Rather than very loose clothes and hoodies, we decided he could wear a leather jacket to symbolise grown up but make a contrast to that by the graffiti on the walls as well as lyrics.

My media product challenges the forms and conventions of real media texts by the make-up and main performer’s hair style. There was no make-up used by the main performer so the audience could see him as a person how he looks and not a great star which they cannot relate to.
